Our group focuses on adaptive evolution at the molecular level. Specifically, we seek to understand how mutations modify gene functions. To this end, we employ microbes as our model to investigate the fitness landscape of gene function, the cause of epistasis, and the molecular basis of protein promiscuity. Our research approach embraces molecular genetics, synthetic biology, experimental evolution, and computational modeling. Through this integrative effort, we aim for addressing fundamental questions in biology and delivering tools for biotechnological application.
